BBC’s Love Bombed

BBC's Love Bombed podcast

TV personality Vicky Pattison interviewed a National Fraud Helpline client and our senior partner for her podcast on romance scams.

Vicky has recorded a whole series of podcasts on the subject of romance scams called Love Bombed- Betrayed.

Rod Lodge was left penniless after falling victim to a romance fraud.

Mr Lodge was keen to take part in the podcast to warn others of the dangers of falling in love online.

Vicky interviewed Mr Lodge who was able to tell the story of how he sold his home to move to Kenya to marry a woman he loved only to find that he had been tricked.

Mr Lodge lost more than £70k and at one point was left homeless.

The series explores double lives, mental trickery, manipulation and love as it gives a voice to a variety of romance scam victims.

As part of the podcast our senior partner, Martin Richardson, was interviewed about romance scams.

Mr Richardson said: ‘We were keen to take part in the podcast to help people understand just how easy it is to fall for a romance scam. Ww also saw it as an opportunity to help prevent others from falling victim to the scammers.

‘Romance scams are particularly cruel as people not only suffer financial loss but are also left emotionally damaged. The betrayal can mean they they find it difficult to trust anyone ever again.

‘Very often the victims of romance scams are very vulnerable already.

‘We have a good success rate in recovering money lost to romance scams so we are always keen to hear from victims to see if we can help them.’
