Who Is Basis Markets?

Basis Markets was a cryptocurrency investment project that took in more than £21m.

The scheme suddenly collapsed in June 2022 saying that it had regulatory issues in the United States.

It meant that many investors lost large amounts of money.

Basis Markets is now the subject of a Serious Fraud Office investigation. Two people were arrested in following police raids in London and West Yorkshire in November, 2025

The SFO has asked anyone who has any information to come forward to help with their investigation. The case marks the SFO’s first major investigation into cryptocurrency fraud.

Nick Ephgrave, director of the SFO, said: ”With our expanding cryptocurrency capability and growing expertise in this area, we are determined to pursue anyone who would seek to use cryptocurrency to defraud investors.

“Today’s action is an important step in our investigation, and we’re urging anyone with information to come forward and support our enquiries.”

Investors had been told that the platform would allow them to profit from crypto’s volatility while being shielded from its infamous price swings. The company claimed that it had a sophisticated AI trading bot which would safeguard investors.

Investors were promised high returns for investing in what was described as a “crypto hedge fund”.

Martin Richardson, a senior partner at National Fraud Helpline solicitors, said: “We are currently investigating how we can help  people who lost money to Basis Markets recover their money.

“We believe that many UK investors will be able to reclaim money under the banks’ reimbursement schemes”
