Who Is Carlauren Group?
Carlauren Group was a UK-based developer which claimed it would create a network of luxury care homes.
However, in 2019 the company collapsed after raising approximately £76m from around 600 investors.
The company said it had purchased 29 care homes but only nine became operational.
Carlauren Group was founded by Sean Murphy and initially promised investors as return of 10% per annum. Murphy is alleged to have lived a luxurious lifestyle.
The firm is now being investigated by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO). In March, 2024, the SFO raided two sites and made three arrests in St Leonard’s, Hampshire and Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
Principal investigator Martin Hall said: “Many people have lost their life savings and it is devastating for these individuals.
“We’ve partnered with the National Crime Agency who carry out these warrants on our behalf.”
SFO director Nick Ephgrave said: “This company’s abrupt collapse made a terrible impact, with elderly people forced to vacate their homes and investors left with nothing.”
