NHS Scam Phone Calls Warning

NHS scam vaccination telephone calls

An NHS Trust has issued a warning about scam phone calls targeting people by asking questions about their vaccination status.

NHS Forth Valley stated that the scam calls are made by individuals claiming to work for Public Health.

A spokesman said: “We have been made aware of a scam phone call from someone claiming to be from Public Health, asking individuals about their vaccination status.

“The number reported in one case was 07441 472225, which has been flagged online as a known scam number.”

It’s important to remember that government organisations like the NHS would never ask for personal or medical information over the phone.

Since the pandemic, NHS impersonation scams have become increasingly common, with fraudsters using the public health service as a ruse to con the public out of sensitive information.

Victims are often asked to hand over personal details such as their NHS number, date of birth, address or even their bank details.

The spokesman continued: “If you receive such a call, do not share any personal details.

“Hang up immediately and report the call, stay safe and be cautious of unsolicited calls asking for personal or health information.”

If you receive a call that you believe may be suspicious, you can always contact your local practice or health board using its website’s official contact details to double check.

Scams can also be flagged to the NHS Counter Fraud Authority at cfa.nhs.uk/report-fraud or by calling 0800 028 4060.

Martin Richardson, senior partner at National Fraud Helpline, said: “Scammers latch on to anything that is in the news and use it as an opportunity to defraud victims.

“The NHS is an official body and so when someone calls claiming to be from the organisation scammers know that people are more likely to listen and follow their advice.

“If you receive a call that you are not expecting then it is important to never take it at face value. Scammers are even after your money directly or information that will allow them to steal your money.”
