We are representing widower Roderick Lodge who lost £85,000 in a romance fraud.
Mr Lodge was put in touch with a woman in Kenya, where he had worked in the past, and soon fell in love.
He agreed to marry ‘Anita’ and sent her money to help her finish the build on a house.
However, when Mr Lodge flew out to meet ‘Anita’ she failed to turn up to see him.
She told him that she couldn’t meet him because her father was ill in hospital.
Mr Lodge had contacts at the hospital who told him that the name ‘Anita’ had given him for his father did not match any patient.
It was at this point that Mr Lodge realised he had been scammed.
Having sold everything to be with ‘Anita’, Mr Lodge was left penniless.
He has now returned to the UK where he his staying at a homeless hostel.

Mr Lodge’s story has appeared in the media as he wanted to warn others of the dangers of falling victim to romance scammers.
